Upgrade to Exchange 2010 SP3

As Microsoft released the Exchange 2010 SP3 on Feb 12, 2013, you should upgrade the servers accordingly. As you may know you should upgrade your servers in pairs. Your CAS , HT, and MBX should be running the same version. The reason for this post is the baseline to be able to deploy a mixed Exchange 2010 and Exchange 2013 environment. So this is the first article.

Download the Exchange 2010 SP3 from Microsoft Download Center. http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=36768

After you download the binaries. Start the installation in your CAS server.

  1. Select Install Microsoft Exchange Server upgrade

  2. After the installation starts , select Next

  3. Accept the EULA and press Next.

  4. The installation will check the pre-requisites. And Enable the Upgrade button. If there are any issues you should fix them.

  5. After the installation finishes, you should see the green check mark. Press Finish.

  6. After you upgrade your first CAS server you should also repeat the steps for your mailbox server. You can see if the servers are in different versions in the console under Server Configuration. Build 14.3 (Build 118.2 or higher is SP3) , Build 14.2 (Build 247.5 is SP2)

  7. You can also do it in the Exchange Management Shell with the following command: Get-ExchangeServer | Select Name, Server Role, Edition, AdminDisplayVersion | fl
