Configure Windows Server 2012 or Hyper-V Server

In this post we will configure Windows Server 2012 or Hyper-V Server 2012 basic settings so we can access it remotely.

Change Server Name

  1. Press CTRL+ALT+Del to login to the console

  2. In the login screen type the administrator password

  3. In the server configuration screen type #2 to change the server name.

  4. Type the new server name and press Enter

  5. Press Yes to apply the changes and restart the server.

Configure Hyper-V Management IP addresses

  1. Login to the console of the Hyper-V 2012 Server
  2. In the Server Configuration Screen type 8 for Network Settings

  3. Network cards are organized in order. So your Port 1 or ETH0 is at the top of the list and so on.
  4. Select the smallest index number. In this case 11

  5. Select 1 to change the IP address of this card.

  6. Type S for Static IP address , Subnet Mask and Gateway

  7. The type 2 in order to configure the DNS settings for this Network Card. Press OK to continue.

  8. When you finished the configuration for the network card type 4 to return to the main menu.

  9. Now your server network card is configured. Test to ping your gateway.
